ohyeahfacts: (The Amazing Book of Useless Information) EDIT: We originally said Eskimo. Anon informed us that was politically incorrect. So don’t say Eskimo anymore, it’s Inuit. So now you know.  EDIT’S EDIT: Alright so thanks to comeflyaway we found out that Eskimo means “flesh eater,” so that’s probably why it’s politically incorrect, but Inuit also is apparently incorrect,...

Monkeys seem to enjoy the sounds of hard rock.
ohyeahfacts: Researchers played a group of cotton-top tamarin monkeys a variety of musical types, such as jazz and classical, and found that they only reacted when they heard the loud, fast-paced sounds of a band like Metallica. Instead of banging their heads, however, the heavy metal made the simians appear calm and content.

Cliché →
bobulate: Seth Godin on clichés: In printing, a cliché was a printing plate cast from movable type. This is also called a stereotype. When letters were set one at a time, it made sense to cast a phrase used repeatedly as a single slug of metal. “Cliché” came to mean such a ready-made phrase. The French word “cliché” comes from the sound made when the matrix is dropped into molten metal to make a...

My dog has a boo boo so I made her breakfast
She got a small scoop of her normal dog food and I nuked her an egg mixed with some roasted chicken and watered it down with some homemade veg soup with carrots, turnip greens, green beans and a 1/4 cup scoop of oatmeal.  This was her reward for taking her pill like a good girl. protein x 2 fiber x 3 carbs x 1

How did the letters “xo” come to be used as a...
ohyeahfacts: The first mention in literature of XXX for kisses at the bottom of a letter was in 1901, according to the Oxford English Dictionary. The X itself is very old. The custom goes back to the early Christian era, when a cross mark or “X” was the same as a sworn oath. The cross referred to the cross of Calvary and the first letter of the Greek word for Christ, Xristos. Even as little as...
